Hmmmmmm

There was a Monk once who recorded everything.  In written word he recorded every activity, down to the mundane action of trimming his fingernails.

- Not sure where this blogging will go and if anyone will actually ever read it.  I'm not sure if I want anyone to read these random thoughts.  I  think when humans reach middle age they begin to become more reflective as well as more deliberate in their life's trajectory.  At least I have.  Like everyone, I've gone through stages of my life:  Early adulthood where testosterone literally guided me by the balls from the Marine Corps through College; Post college where I followed the cultural programming taught us of getting a job, marrying and having kids;  The career, ass busting years of finding my place in my profession and sacrificing and driving to succeed and earn; This stage, which is where I am now (to be named later).

Within the last 3-5 years I've transitioned from a less material person to placing more value on health, travel and cultural enrichment.  I hope to impress the importance of these values on my children, versus having them watch a parent try and buy expensive cars and move to a larger house in a more prestigious neighborhood.  I've watched people chase these "things" and it looks very frustrating always wanting bigger and better.  There is a balance, we do live in a very nice neighborhood and have a nice house and the security of this is nice.  But I'm totally content.  I'd much rather sock away money in savings and earmark as much as possible for travel and healthy activities.

So, I can tell you what this blog will NOT BE:  It will not be a rant against the stupidity of our government.  See FaceBook for that.  It will not be condemning, again see FB - there is enough condemnation on the internet and in the world.

I may post about a flyfishing trip - to Baja, the Bahamas or a farm pond near my house.  I may share an article that resonates with me or maybe a recipe or new beer I've tried.  There is a chance I'll post something deeply personal and heavy or something as simple as an seeing eagles on the Catawba River or a snake on a trail run.  I'm sure I'll blog about the frustration of my new sport of White Water Kayaking and how it is humbling and kicking my ass right now.

Or, like the pull-up bar I bought for the door jam - this blog may just get stashed in the proverbial closet and get lost and unused.

I tend to think this will be cathartic for me and help me stay grounded.  This will not be a bragging site where I post how fast I ran a half marathon or post pictures of a mud run.  Go to FB for that.

There will be a place for people to make comments, but any negative or condemnation will disable that function.  This will be a place for the positive, again there is enough negative on the internet and this is not the venue for that.  These rules are set for me as much as anyone else.
